ERS is currently looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist to assist with our growing site investigation and remediation workload.

Services include:


  • Environmental and geotechnical site investigation

  • On- and off-site remediation of contaminated soil

  • Treatment of contaminated groundwater

  • Invasive weeds survey and treatment


The role involves…


The successful candidate will be part of ERS’ Technical Team and work alongside other technical specialists supporting all aspects of ERS’s work.  Specifically, the role involves:

  • Provision of specialist hydrogeological support including on the design of site investigations and remediation schemes

  • Writing and reviewing geo-environmental reports with regards to groundwater aspects

  • Hydrogeological risk assessment, including DQRA using common modelling tools such as EA RTM (P20) or ConSim

  • Interpretation of hydrogeological data from site investigation and groundwater remediation projects

  • Liaison with clients and regulators

  • Support business development activities and contribute to tenders

  • Project management

  • Training and mentoring junior staff

  • Occasional site work – groundwater monitoring and sampling, permeability/pumping tests, groundwater remediation

  • Travelling throughout the UK

The successful applicant will be based in our Glasgow (Bishopbriggs) office. ERS operates a hybrid working policy for eligible staff..

Who we're looking for…


Your Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a BSc in a relevant subject, e.g. Geology, Earth/Environmental Sciences, Civil/Environmental Engineering, etc…

  • Ideally a MSc or equivalent in Hydrogeology or a related subject


Your experience:

  • Experience of working as a hydrogeologist within a consulting, contracting, or regulatory environment including:

    • Site characterisation experience and ability to formulate hydrogeological conceptual site models: aquifers characteristics, cross sections, aquifer recharge, groundwater level contours, groundwater flow direction, permeability/transmissivity calculations

    • Ability to undertake detailed quantitative hydrogeological risk assessments (DQRA) for groundwater contamination

    • Knowledge and understanding of the regulatory context for groundwater risk assessment for contaminated land and permitting

  • Writing and reviewing interpretative reports

  • Communication with Clients, regulators and other projects stakeholders

  • Hydrogeological field work within the site investigation, groundwater remediation or groundwater resource sector

  • Data management & analysis

  • Experience of data visualisation in Surfer, or CAD/GIS, would be beneficial

  • Delivering projects on time and budget

  • Working in a multi-disciplinary environment


Essential Requirements:


  • Great attention to detail

  • Data management and analysis skills

  • Report writing and presentation skills

  • IT literacy (MS packages)

  • Full UK Driving License

  • Fluency in English and the right to work in the UK
