ERS played a small part in the construction of the new Queensferry Crossing via several phases of site investigation along the route. In particular, the works included drilling boreholes at the base of the northern tower coffer dam. This allowed assessment of stress relief associated with the removal of overburden.
The work required lowering a rotary drilling rig into the base of a coffer dam 35m below the surface of the Firth of Forth – its not every day you get to work below water and keep your feet dry!
Well done to the Queensferry Crossing team – it is an achievement to be proud of!
